Importance of Continued Dental Care
Many people wait until they are in a lot of pain before going to the dentist. Following a treatment plan, set in place by your dentist, is the best step towards getting ahead of potential dental problems. Continued dental care is very important to your overall oral health. Regular scheduled dental visits (including dental cleanings) will save your teeth while saving you money in the long term.
Your First Visit
At the time of your first visit, the Dentist will evaluate your total oral health through a comprehensive dental exam and full mouth x-rays. Your Dentist will create an individualized treatment plan including future hygiene appointments and possibly other dental procedures if needed. Your first appointment is for a dental exam to determine what type of cleaning is needed. A cleaning appointment will be scheduled after your initial exam.
Dental Cleaning
Attending regular Hygiene appointments is very important since it is at this time that the Hygienist and the Dentist can take x-rays and perform an examination to identify current and potential dental problems. Identifying a problem earlier is better than letting the problem progress to a more severe, painful, and expensive stage. Consistently attending appointments proposed in your dental treatment plan will greatly increase the chances of oral health success.
Dental cleanings are typically scheduled every six months. Your cleaning will be performed by a licensed Dental Hygienist. Diagnostic x-rays are usually taken yearly to check for cavities’ and to evaluate the bone levels around the teeth; followed by the removal of plaque and tartar.
